Top Five in Vail, Colorado
I can’t think of a better way to spend a weekend in late January than with dear friends (old and new!) in this cute mountain town. This is the 2nd ski trip that we did with this group of friends and we always have the best time. We opted to stay in a vrbo in Lionshead Village this time. The condo had a cool retro vibe with a sunken couch that made for some good laughs. We were close to everything which was super convenient. We did miss the ski in/ski out condo with a hot tub from last year though.
The key to a good ski group is to invite friends that have similar ski abilities. Some of our group are advanced skiers and some are novice (me!). We skied, apres skied, and laughed our way through this trip. So sit back, grab your favorite apes ski drink, and enjoy Vail, Colorado.
Skiing
I think this goes without saying that the number one thing to do in Vail is ski. We had a group of varying abilities and the expert skiers raved about all the back bowls, moguls, and tricks (yikes!). I opted to stay on the green hills with a few blue runs. I do think Vail would be tricky if you had zero skiing experience, but it was just perfect for our group.
Apres Ski at Garfinkle’s
What a great spot to hit after you come off the mountain. It is a very chill sports bar type spot with a great outdoor area. We lucked out with the absolute best weather so we were able to sit outside and enjoy drinks and snacks. The nachos were amazing! This place is first come/first serve and you have to half of your party there to be seated, but it was worth it.
Apres at Tavern on the Square
On the last day of skiing, my bestie and I left the mountain a bit early and started our apres at Tavern on the Square. We had the best spot outside right next to the fire. Even though it was only 25 degrees, it felt so hot in the sun I had to take off my ski coat! We also went to Tavern the previous day and sat inside, but this outside patio is the best for people watching and yummy drinks.
Lunch at the Four Seasons Remedy Bar
The joke of the trip was that it wasn’t cold/icy/windy/or difficult when you were sitting at the Remedy Bar! On the first day, most of the group hit up the slopes or lessons. I opted for shopping and lunch. We found this gem of a restaurant and it was just the perfect spot to chat, people watch, eat lunch, and experience the best espresso martini of your life! My personal goal of the trip was to have soup for at least one meal a day. The soup sandwich combo was amazing. This bar is a must do if you are having a non skiing leisurely day in Vail.
Sweet Basil
Sweet Basil in Vail Village was out favorite dinner spot of the trip. We had a cozy round table in the corner for our group of 8 and everyone loved their food. From the flowing wine, unique appetizers, and well done entrees, this is a place I would go back to. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation here!
Vail was a perfect winter getaway, but I would also love to visit in the summer of fall. Definitely consider Vail if you are looking for a ski destination with a fun downtown. Next up….out favorite Mexico destination!
